Welcome to the SIDES Interactive Toolkit!

As you know, the State Information Data Exchange System (SIDES) is a critical tool for states and employers, enabling states to send unemployment insurance (UI) requests and employers to respond through a consistent, integrated and streamlined process.

While most states have gone live with the Separation Information (SI) exchange, the tool is not yet being maximized everywhere. States have been challenged with the goals of using SIDES E-Response to respond to 35% of unemployment insurance claims and a combination of SIDES E-Response and web services to respond to 50% of unemployment insurance claims. Efficiencies and improvements can be found in every state!

The SIDES Interactive Toolkit is designed to help you self-assess how effectively your state is implementing the SIDES program and provide a clear understanding of the “ideal state” implementation. As such, the toolkit’s objectives are to help you:

  • Identify gaps in your SIDES marketing and use
  • Learn about best practices being deployed in other states
  • Get connected to other states (peers) via existing National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) SIDES peer learning opportunities

The toolkit is comprised of two parts:

  1. Begin the toolkit by completing the assessment. The assessment measures your state's current capabilities in three areas: Marketing, Internal Processes, and involvement with NASWA's SIDES community. For each area, a set of indicators illustrates the details of an ideal program and you will be asked to indicate your current progress on each indicator. The assessment should take approximately 10-15 minutes to complete.

  2. After you've completed the assessment, you will receive a summary report. This document presents the results of your assessment for each indicator, includes comprehensive best practices, examples and recommended steps you can take to further maximize SIDES. The results should be discussed, prioritized and shared with stakeholders who can impact change and/or support SIDES implementation.

The toolkit may be completed multiple times (or regularly over time) to measure your progress.
